2026 Budget and Tax Increase
If you recently received a Notice of Property Valuation & Tax Changes, the Salt Lake County line reflects a tax increase approved by the County Council in December 2025 — not a new increase.
In December 2025, the Council approved the 2026 budget with a property tax increase of approximately 14.65%, which equals less than $6.00 per month for the average homeowner (based on a $638,000 home value). This applies only to Salt Lake County's portion of your bill — about 17% of the total.
For years, Salt Lake County absorbed rising costs by tightening budgets and finding efficiencies. Costs continued to outpace revenues, and the gap could no longer be closed without additional funding. This increase helps the County protect essential services for residents.
