Two Sentenced for 2023 Death of Teen

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced a Third District Court judge
sentenced Anthony Alexander Hernandez and Kimberly Alvarez for their roles in the 2023 death of F.C. in West Valley City. However, a third defendant, Bryan Alvarez, that had entered a guilty plea for first-degree felony murder, withdrew his plea at sentencing yesterday.

On March 3, 2023, police responded to reports of gunshots near 1378 West Caesar Circle in West Valley City. When they arrived, investigators saw a gray Nissan Altima crashed at the end of a cul-de-sac with approximately 20 gunshot holes in it and 15-year-old F.C. with multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel transported F.C. to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Video surveillance of the scene shows a red and blue car parked in the circle before the shooting. When F.C. arrived in the gray Altima, the red car pulled behind him, and the blue car stopped on the opposite side of the road. The Altima drove forward, out of camera range, and muzzle flashes are seen coming from the red car. The red car then reversed, two more shots were fired, and the car drove off, with the blue car driving behind. Through the investigation, detectives discovered that Bryan had been “beefing” with F.C., and Bryan wanted to hurt him. Bryan had Hernandez and his other friends come up with a plan to lure F.C. to the area of West Caesar Circle and rob him. But when F.C. arrived, everyone got out of the vehicles and started shooting.

On May 1, 2025, both Bryan Alvarez and Anthony Alexander Hernandez pled guilty to one count of first-degree felony murder. On May 1, 2025, Kimberly Alvarez pled guilty to one count of second-degree felony manslaughter and one count of first-degree felony discharge of a firearm with serious bodily injury.

On Monday, August 19, 2025, a Third District Court judge sentenced Anthony Alexander Hernandez to 15 years to life for one count of first-degree felony murder, and Kimberly Alvarez to one to 15 years for one count of second-degree felony manslaughter five years to file for one count of first-degree felony discharged of a firearm with serious bodily injury.

Xavior Lunt pled guilty to one count of first-degree felony murder on April 19, 2024, and on May 6, 2024, a judge sentenced him to be incarcerated for 15 years to life.

Four other juveniles have been charged and sentenced in relation to this case.

Bryan Alvarez will now have a new attorney assigned to him at which point that attorney will file a motion to explain why his plea withdrawal should be permitted.

“Nine young people had their lives forever changed by this senseless act of violence, one lost his life. As a community, we must do better to ensure that our children do not have the ability to access firearms. A deadly decision like the one these teens made has not only taken a life, it has changed the lives of all those involved before they had a chance to become adults,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. “We hope that these sentences help the family of the victim feel they have received justice. We know that it is not perfect justice, if it were, their loved one would still be here today. We hope that with this ending, they can start to heal from the loss of their child. We thank our prosecutors Chris Alberico, Jeremy McKinney, and Karissa McKinney, as well as our support staff for their years of work on these cases. We appreciate the thorough investigation conducted by West Valley City Police Department that led to this successful prosecution."
