A Third District Court jury found Pirawn Yohan Mula guilty of the 2024 murder of a 28-year-old man, P.J., at a Murray apartment complex.
On the evening of November 21, 2024, Pirawn Mula drove with two of his friends to the Fairbourne apartments in Murray, Utah. While the three men were spending time with several acquaintances in an apartment, the defendant got into a verbal argument with P.J. That argument moved from the apartment out to the parking lot, and at one point, the defendant shot P.J. multiple times. The evidence is consistent with both shots being fired from less than three feet away. The defendant fled the scene but was found and arrested the next day. The murder weapon was never recovered.
On December 3, 2024, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office charged the defendant with one count of first-degree felony murder, one count of first-degree felony discharge of a firearm, one count of second-degree felony obstruction of justice, and one count of second-degree felony possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
The trial started March 11, 2026, and lasted three and a half days, concluding on Monday, March 16, 2026. After deliberating for less than three hours, the jury returned a guilty verdict on all charges.
Sentencing is set for May 4, 2026.
“We hope the victim’s family feels they have received some measure of justice with this conviction. Though it isn’t perfect justice, if it were perfect justice, their loved one would still be with them today. We believe this conviction provides the accountability for this thoughtless act of violence,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. “We appreciate the work of our prosecutors Brett Keeler and Eduardo Cervantes-Esparza for their excellent work taking this case to trial and securing a guilty verdict. We thank the Murray Police Department for their quick response time to the incident and thorough investigation.”
