Celebrating the Future Builders: Salt Lake County Cox-Granato Pre-Apprenticeship Program Graduates Second Cohort
April 19, 2024, marked a significant milestone for the Salt Lake County Pre-Apprenticeship Program with the graduation of its second cohort! This momentous occasion underscores Salt Lake County's dedication to nurturing a skilled workforce that will contribute substantially to our regional economy.
A Journey of Skill and Determination
The Utah Women in Trades was proud to celebrate their newest set of graduates alongside Mayor Jenny Wilson, friends, family, and representatives from the Construction Trades Council.
The ceremony not only honored their hard work and commitment but also highlighted the profound impact of this initiative, generously supported by federal ARPA funds, on our community.
The program has grown rapidly since its inception. From the first cohort of five in fall 2023 to today’s group of 20 talented individuals, the trajectory of this initiative is set to sky rocket. At the time of writing more than 70 applications have been received for the next cohort!
Highlights from the Ceremony
During the event, we had the privilege of sharing success stories that truly embody the spirit and goals of the Pre-Apprenticeship Program. Among the program graduates was Antonia Dawes, a devoted mother whose journey through the program has inspired her family and her community. Antonia's perseverance and success have not only paved a way for her in skilled labor but have also motivated her child to pursue a similar career path.
Another inspiring story came from McKinzie Taylor, who has successfully transitioned from a pre-apprentice to an apprentice with the Utah Electrical Training Alliance, thanks to the robust mentorship and support provided by the program. These narratives are powerful reminders of how targeted training and support can transform lives.
Building a Resilient Community Through Skilled Labor
The Salt Lake County Cox/Granato Pre-Apprenticeship Program stands as a critical component of our strategy to build a stronger, more resilient community. Funded by a significant portion of the $225 million Salt Lake County received from ARPA, the program not only facilitates recovery but fosters sustainable economic growth.
With 30 participants to date and an anticipated enrollment of 300 by 2026, the program promises to enhance workforce readiness and promote economic advancement across Salt Lake County. Our pre-apprentices receive comprehensive training in construction and building trades, earning industry credentials and securing opportunities for further advancement through registered apprenticeship programs.
Congratulations to Our Graduates
To all our graduates, Salt Lake County is proud of each of you and eagerly anticipates the contributions you will make to our society with the skills you have developed. Congratulations, and here’s to building brighter futures together!
