Central City Recreation Center Hosts 29th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Thanksgiving is a traditional time for connection, gratitude, and warm meals shared among neighbors. For 29 years, Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation's Central City Recreation Center has hosted its Community Thanksgiving Dinner, bringing joy and nourishment to hundreds of community members. This cherished event, which began humbly in a small room, now welcomes 300 guests annually to its gymnasium—a testament to the spirit of togetherness and community that it inspires.
Event Details:
Thanksgiving Community Dinner Date: Tuesday, November 26
Time: 5:30 pm-7:30 pm
Location: Central City Recreation Center, 615 S 300 E, Salt Lake City
"We are grateful that Central City Recreation Center has been able to continue this long-standing community event. This event gives all members of our community a place to gather and enjoy the company of others during the holidays." says Facility Manager Katie Obray.
The meal is lovingly prepared by faculty and staff from Utah Valley University's (UVU) Culinary Arts Institute, who have partnered with the recreation center for the past 11 years. Working alongside Central City Recreation Center staff to create a festive feast, the culinary team will cook 15 expertly prepared turkeys.
Preparation begins one day in advance to ensure everything is ready to delight the 300 attendees as soon as they arrive on November 26.
"The community Thanksgiving dinner is one of our favorite traditions," Chef Troy Wilson of UVU's Culinary Arts Institute shared. "We take great pride in crafting a meal that brings people together. This event is about more than just food. It's about creating a sense of belonging and joy for the Central City community. Being part of this celebration, year after year, is truly an honor."
