Salt Lake County Celebrates the 1-Year Anniversary of the My County Rec Pass

Salt Lake County, UT - Salt Lake County is proud to announce over 78,000 school-age children have registered for the My County Rec Pass, a program for Salt Lake County residents, ages 0-18, providing free access to county-operated recreation centers. Mayor Jenny Wilson's youth-driven initiative, which launched in May 2024, has been going strong thanks to the continued support of the Salt Lake County Council.

This initiative has had a profound impact:

  • 76% of participants had never purchased a pass to a Salt Lake County recreation center before.
  • Of those, 62% said cost was the primary barrier to participation.

The My County Rec Pass is giving children the opportunity to create lifelong healthy habits and teach them about recreation skills they can use and share with others throughout their life. An additional goal of making wellness and recreation more equitable and accessible, the My County Rec Pass is removing financial hurdles and opening opportunities for thousands of families.

"I'm thrilled to see more young people than ever before using our recreation centers thanks to the My County Rec Pass," said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. "It's not only creating healthy, active opportunities for youth—it's also energizing our facilities overall. We've seen a ripple effect with increased attendance among adults and seniors, which shows how recreation can truly bring communities together."

"This initiative highlights our dedication to offering accessible, inclusive, and engaging recreational opportunities for school-age youth throughout the county," Chris Otto, director Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation. "Our goal is to keep expanding our reach, ensuring that every young person can enjoy the physical, emotional, and social benefits of community recreation."

"It's exciting to see so many kids and teens taking advantage of the My County Rec Pass. This is all about helping families stay active and giving young people a fun, healthy way to spend time. It's a great example of how we can make a real difference with smart, simple ideas," said Salt Lake County Council Chair Dea Theodore.

This impactful program was made possible through the support of Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson, the Salt Lake County Council, and the Tourism, Recreation, Culture, and Convention (TRCC) Program.

The My County Rec Pass continues to promote health, equity, and community connection—at no cost to families.
