Securely Covered Loads

Utah Code 72-7-410(2) A driver utilizing a landfill shall ensure that the vehicle's load is securely covered from the destination of origin until the driver deposits the load at the landfill.

"Landfill" means a landfill or transfer station that is permitted by the Department of Environmental Quality.

"Securely covered" means the content of a load is completely covered by a solid barrier which will prevent the load from blowing, spilling or falling from the vehicle.

Beginning January 1, 2026, the landfill will collect an additional fee (equal to the disposal price) for a vehicle in violation of Subsection (2) above.

Cash Transaction Tare Weight/Re-Weigh

A customer who brings weight-based loads (price per ton) and does not have an empty weight in the system must re-weigh to acquire the empty weight. If the customer does not have an account and is paying cash or card, they must provide one of the following to be held at the scales until upon return to complete the transaction:

  • Valid government issued ID with a Salt Lake County address
  • Valid vehicle registration proof

If neither of these is available, we cannot complete a transaction, and the customer will not be able to dump.

Tires (No Businesses - Residential Only)

Tires may not be brought to the landfill unless they can be retrieved from the load and deposited in the designated tire recycling pile located in the Citizens Unloading area. Any tires dumped at the tipping face will be required to be retrieved by the customer and deposited in the location as specified above or the customer will be required to take them with them as they exit the facility.
