Using Generative AI Proof of Concept

About this project

  • Status: In Progress
  • Lead Agency: Information Technology
  • Funding Amount: $10,000

This project explores the use of local, self-hosted Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) combined with internal and publicly available information through a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach. Running on a private server to keep data secure and off public platforms, the tool aims to support a range of analytical and research tasks — such as reviewing large volumes of documents or records to surface trends and insights, enabling staff to query internal policies conversationally, and supporting broader knowledge management and organizational analysis — all governed by appropriate data handling procedures and privacy protections. This proof of concept will help Salt Lake County evaluate the practical value of locally hosted AI for improving efficiency, reducing manual research effort, and informing decision-making, while maintaining full control over sensitive information.
