Solar-Powered Tree Care For County Parks

About this project

  • Status: In Progress
  • Lead Agency: Parks & Recreation
  • Funding Amount: $50,000

The Solar Powered Tree Care project will modernize Salt Lake County Parks Operations by transitioning from diesel trucks and gas powered tools to cleaner electric equipment supported by solar charging in the field. This shift will reduce costs, emissions, and noise while improving the health and working conditions of arborists and enhancing the experience for park visitors. Advances in battery powered tools now provide strong performance for daily tree care, making them a practical replacement for existing equipment. By incorporating solar panels and mobile battery systems, the County can charge tools on site, reduce fuel dependence, and position itself as a leader in innovative and sustainable arboriculture practices.
