Historic Property Records Digitization

About this project

  • Status: In Progress
  • Lead Agency: Recorder's Office
  • Funding Amount: $85,000

The Digitization of Property Records project will modernize Salt Lake County's historic property archives by converting more than a century of paper records into a secure and searchable digital format. This effort will preserve fragile original documents while making them easier for staff, researchers, and the public to access, supporting property rights, historical research, and community transparency. By digitizing and intelligently indexing these records, the project will improve search capabilities for both public and private users, enable more efficient workflows, and reduce the need for manual handling and physical storage. It will also protect important historical information from damage or loss, create opportunities for new revenue, and lower long term costs by reducing storage demands allowing the County to repurpose or eliminate underused space.
