Jorge Medina-Reyes Pleads Guilty to Murder of Nicole Solario-Romero

Today, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced that Jorge Rafael Medina-Reyes pleaded guilty for his involvement in the murder of Nicole Solario-Romero. 

 

On February 6, 2021,Mr. Medina-Reyes, along with co-defendant Orlando Tobar, forced Ms. Solario-Romero from her residence at gun point into a vehicle. They drove her to a West Valley City home, where she was taken into the residence at knifepoint by Orlando Tobar. Several other individuals were present in the residence when they arrived.  

 

While inside the residence Ms. Romero was shot once in the head by Mr. Medina-Reyes and then, according to witnesses, shot a second time by Orlando Tobar. Ms. Romero’s body was later wrapped in plastic bags, transported from the scene by Orlando Tobar and an additional defendant, Cristian Morales, and left on the side of the road in Tooele County.  

 

On June 20, 2024, the defendant pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree felony murder and one count of first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping. Sentencing is scheduled for July 23, 2024. 

 

The defendant is the third of six co-defendants to plead guilty for involvement in this case. The others are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Violence of this nature will not be tolerated in our community, and we will do everything we can to deliver justice,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. “I want to thank our prosecutors, Morgan Vedejs and Anna Rossi Anderson, along with our support staff, that made this prosecution successful. I also want to thank our law enforcement partners for their efforts.”
