Charges Filed Against Man for Alleged Aggravated Kidnapping, Rape, Child Abuse, and Crashing into a Home

Today, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced charges filed against David Anthony Mora for alleged aggravated kidnapping, rape, child abuse, and causing a vehicle collision which resulted in injuries and property damage.

On December 19, 2024, Mr. Mora went to the home of his ex-girlfriend, J.G., and told her he was going to kill her. On December 20, 2024, J.G. went to work and following the end of her shift, the defendant picked her up and assaulted her on the drive back to her home. The defendant then forced J.G. to have sex with him. During the rape, the defendant strangled the victim, resulting in a loss of consciousness. J.G.’s child was present at the home during the incident.

On December 21, 2024, J.G. went to work, but left early. The defendant picked her up from work and brought her back to her home. The defendant and J.G. then began arguing at the house. During the argument, P.G., J.G.’s 3-year-old daughter was assaulted by the defendant. P.G. was observed with an “extremely red” thigh and a purple upper lip. When J.G. confronted the defendant, they began physically fighting. The defendant elbowed the victim and knocked out her front teeth. During the fight, the defendant held a steak knife to the victim’s throat and threatened to kill her.

The victims were able to leave the home and get to J.G.’s car. The defendant offered to drive them to J.G.’s friend’s house, which J.G. accepted. As the defendant was walking around the car to the driver’s side, the victim jumped over to the driver’s seat and locked the doors to prevent the defendant from entering the car. J.G. began driving away and the defendant jumped onto the hood of the car. J.G. stopped the car and the defendant forced his way into the car, assaulting J.G. as he forced her into the passenger seat. The defendant began driving the car at a high rate of speed, swerving along the road, and eventually crashing into the front of a home. The defendant exited the car, grabbed P.G. and ran away from the scene. The defendant then “dropped” P.G. on the ground and continued running away. Officers chased after the defendant, and he was taken into custody.

The defendant is charged with one count of first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping, one count of first-degree felony rape, one count of first-degree felony child kidnapping, one count of first-degree felony aggravated robbery, one count of second-degree felony aggravated assault resulting in loss of consciousness, one count of second-degree felony aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, one count of third-degree felony aggravated assault, two counts of third-degree felony domestic violence in the presence of a child, one count of third-degree felony possession of a dangerous weapon, one count of class A misdemeanor child abuse, one count of class A misdemeanor driving under the influence, one count of class A misdemeanor causing a catastrophe, one count of class A misdemeanor fail to stop at command of law officer, and one count of class B misdemeanor accident involving property damage. Charges were filed on December 30, 2024.
