Surrender Program

The Pretrial Surrender Program allows defendants to bypass full booking into the Salt Lake County jail on warrants.  Costs associated with booking a defendant into jail are avoided via the Surrender Program and negative consequences of jail booking on defendants is eliminated.

Defendants are interviewed by Surrender Screeners, assessed for release risk, qualified for pretrial supervision, and scheduled for Arraignment Court.  If the court concurs with the surrender, defendants report to the jail and are booked/ immediately released for supervision by Pretrial Services.

If the defendant has been previously booked on the charges, there is no need to repeat the booking; the warrant is recalled by the court and the defendant reports immediately to Pretrial to initiate supervision. Persons not qualifying for surrender are given the necessary information to resolve the warrant with the court.
