Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Search & Rescue Locates Overdue Hikers at Broads Fork Trail

Salt Lake County – The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office led search and rescue efforts for a party of
overdue hikers in Big Cottonwood Canyon. 

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, a 31-year-old-male along with his three children, a 2-year-old boy,
a 4-year-old boy, and an 8-year-old girl, set off for a hike near the area of Broads Fork Trail.

The hikers were later reported missing. The party’s vehicle was located at the Broads Fork parking
lot. Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, DPS Aero Bureau, and Lifeflight immediately responded and
initiated aerial search efforts, conducting multiple search patterns over the area.

First responders were able to locate the missing parties Sunday morning. All four individuals were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment. The adult male is in fair condition. Two children are in critical, and one child is in stable condition.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
