Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Assists in Response to Plane Crash in Little Cottonwood Canyon

Little Cottonwood – At approximately 5:21 p.m. on August 31, 2025, a small aircraft carrying two individuals crashed in the Albion Basin area in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Alta Marshalls, Unified Fire Authority, and witnesses recreating in the area were first to respond.

Upon arrival first responders discovered one victim deceased. The other individual was airlifted by Air Med to the University of Utah hospital in critical condition.

Alta Marshalls contacted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). They are expected to arrive tomorrow and will do an investigation into what caused the crash.

At the request of the Alta Marshalls, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in processing and securing the scene. It is requested that the public stay out of the area.
