Multiple Agencies Respond to Avalanche Near Brighton Ski Resort

At approximately 12:49 p.m., Brighton Ski Patrol and Wasatch Backcountry Rescue responded to a backcountry avalanche near Brighton Ski Resort and arrived first on scene. Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue also responded.  

Rescuers located a juvenile female along the slide path and immediately provided first aid. The patient was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition. 

Additional responding agencies include the Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau, Life Flight, Unified Police Department, and Unified Fire Authority. 

Unified Police Department, U.S. Forrest Service, and Utah Avalanche Center are investigating.

Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera shared, “I want to thank all the responding agencies for their quick response to this avalanche. The conditions are ever changing with the unpredictable snowpack. This incident is a reminder that avalanches can happen in an instant. I offer my heartfelt prayers to the victim and her family.”
