Upper Mill Creek Road Improvement Project Construction Update
Week of May 15, 2025
Construction is actively underway in Upper Mill Creek Canyon between the Winter Gate and Elbow Fork as part of the long-term Road Improvement Project. The upper canyon roadway remains closed to all public access, but most trails remain open, including the Pipeline and Upper Pipeline trails.
What’s Happening This Week:
- Survey work continues throughout the project area
- Tree removal is underway by the Diamond Tree contractor
- Soil nail wall construction near Elbow Fork is preparing to begin; expect one-lane conditions once work starts
- Traffic control signage is being added and adjusted throughout the canyon
- Rockery and vegetation removal is ongoing at the Elbow Fork crossing
- Vault toilet demolition and removal has taken place in selected areas
Visitors using nearby trails should expect increased construction traffic, noise, and equipment near work zones. Please use caution and follow all posted signage.
For Firs Cabin Owners
Limited vehicle access will be available over Memorial Day weekend for permitted cabin owners. Those individuals have been contacted directly with further instructions and safety information.
Trail Access Reminder
- Dogs must be on-leash on even-numbered days, and always in developed areas
- Bikes are allowed in Upper Mill Creek Canyon only on even-numbered days
- Dogs are not allowed on trails that originate in Big Cottonwood Canyon, even if they connect to Mill Creek
