Salt Lake County Receives $2 Million Healthy Homes Production Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

Salt Lake County, UT — The Salt Lake County Office of Regional Development is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $2 million grant under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to expand the Healthy Homes Production program. This award is in response to an application submitted by Salt Lake County for this highly competitive program. Funding will empower Salt Lake County to address significant health and safety hazards in homes, helping to protect families and children across the region.

The Housing and Community Development team within Salt Lake County spearheaded the application process, demonstrating the county’s commitment to fostering safer, healthier living environments for all residents.

Salt Lake County’s grant is part of HUD’s broader announcement of more than $226 million in funding distributed to state, county, city, and Tribal governments, as well as non-profit organizations. These grants are designed to:

Protect families from lead poisoning and other home health hazards.
Increase local capacity for lead hazard control and other healthy home interventions.
Train and hire local housing renovation contractors and hazard assessment professionals.
"We are grateful to HUD for this critical funding that will allow us to create safer, healthier homes for Salt Lake County families," said Mayor Jenny Wilson. "By partnering with local small businesses to perform this vital work, we're not only improving housing conditions but also driving economic growth and investing directly in our community's future."

Through the Healthy Homes Production program, Salt Lake County will address multiple home health hazards comprehensively, preventing injuries and diseases, reducing healthcare costs, and improving the overall quality of life for residents. This initiative will also contribute to strengthening housing affordability and community stability.

“This funding is not just about fixing homes—it’s about ensuring that children and families can thrive in safe and healthy environments,” said Mike Ackerlow, the Salt Lake County Housing & Community Development Director. “We’re excited to roll up our sleeves and put this grant to work for the benefit of our community.”
