A "brownfield" is a property with actual or suspected contamination that inhibits redevelopment prospects. Salt Lake County uses grant money from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to assess and clean up these properties.

Assessing and cleaning up these sites improves and protects the environment. Our grants also facilitate redevelopment that increases property tax revenue and supports job growth.

Midvale Public Works Expansion

Assessment grant funding helped Midvale City evaluate parcels with unknown contamination as part of a planned expansion of its public works facility. A Phase I environmental assessment ensured compliance with All Appropriate Inquiries (AAI) and supported the City’s property acquisition.
