Environmental Sustainability

Salt Lake County is home to a diverse and unique environment that offers unparalleled recreation and quality of life opportunities. As a division part of the Office of Regional Development, Environmental Sustainability seeks to support regional sustainability measures to ensure all populations live in a safe, secure, and healthy environment.

Salt Lake County is dedicated to reducing the County's internal environmental footprint across all sectors including reduction efforts within the five pillars of Salt Lake County's sustainability: air, water, waste and recycling, land, and energy.

Green Vision unifies all of Salt Lake County's sustainability efforts. Our mission is to integrate sustainability into every aspect of our government operations and empower all employees to become a part of the solution.

Air

Air quality is a top priority of Salt Lake County. With several initiatives including E-Bus Air Quality Monitoring, Vehicle Repair Assistance, Green & Healthy Homes, Electric Vehicle Charging at County Facilities, and the Clear the Air Challenge, we aim to monitor and improve our local air quality.

Water

At Salt Lake County, we are doing our part to conserve water. From monitoring our snowpack to implementing water-wise initiatives, we are committed to long-term water conservation amid frequent emergency droughts and changing environmental landscapes.

Salt Lake County manages 1,450 acres of open space. Salt Lake County prioritizes the preservation of undeveloped areas for the conservation of natural resources and for public access and enjoyment.

Salt Lake County is a leader in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other sustainable energy initiatives. This includes the installation of modern technology such as solar power, geothermal heating, and LED lighting in our county buildings.
