Public Safety and Criminal Justice Remain Top Priorities in Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson’s 2026 Budget Proposal
SALT LAKE COUNTY, UT — The 2026 budget proposed by Mayor Jenny Wilson is balanced and ensures the County maintains its AAA bond rating.
Additionally, Mayor Wilson’s proposal includes these priorities:
- Criminal justice and public safety
- Modernization and efficiency
- Elections and democratic integrity
- Deferred maintenance and technology
- Housing
- 19.63% property tax increase (approximately $7.28 per month per household)
“Salt Lake County is Utah’s most populated county and has seen steady growth for more than a decade. Population growth has a direct impact on regional operations and services for all Salt Lake County residents. Between the population growth, rising inflation, our community’s utilization of public resources, enhanced public safety and behavioral health needs, millions in unfunded mandates, and no increases to property tax revenue since 2019, we must propose a property tax increase,” shared Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson.
Departments will present their budgets to County Council over the next few weeks. The County Council will make final budget decisions and present a budget for public review in late November. Additionally, because of the proposed property tax increase, public meetings will be held between now and the final approval. Following public comment, the final budget will be approved. Council/public meeting information is available online: slco.to/council.
