Mayor Jenny Wilson Addresses Tragic Deaths of Two Backcountry Skiers

"My deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the backcountry skiers who lost their lives yesterday. I can only imagine the immense pain and sorrow their loved ones are feeling during this difficult time. Having lost my own cousin in a similar incident in Wolverine Cirque in 1993, I understand the heartbreak that comes with such a loss. Our beautiful mountains and canyons offer us a connection with nature that is truly special, but sometimes that connection can bring profound sorrow. My thoughts are with the families during this difficult time."

In addition, I would like to express my heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to the other skier who was unfortunately caught in the avalanche and injured. Despite the harrowing experience, it is heartening, to know that they are now on the path to recovery.

We are grateful for the unwavering dedication of our search and rescue teams, whose efforts in ensuring safe rescues—and when necessary, recoveries—are deeply appreciated during such challenging times."
