Caregiver Education and Support

Those who care for others benefit from a wide variety of learning and sharing options, including training, support groups, relaxation options (respite), and coaching.

Education Options

Programs offered by the Salt Lake County Caregiver Support Program are offered virtually and at a variety of Senior Centers.

Participants learn care management skills using Caregiver Talking Point worksheets. These discussions assist family and other unpaid caregivers as they work to improve their care-related skills and abilities.

  • Virtual classes are held the 4th Wednesday of each month at 12:00 PM
  • In-Person classes are held the 4th Thursday of each month at 9:00 AM at the Midvale Senior Center.

An immersive experience that helps caregiver understand the sensory and cognitive challenges faced by people living with dementia such as impaired processing and altered touch. Each experience lasts 45 minutes. 

Classes meet at various time and locations. Find current options on the Aging & Adult Services calendar. 

A 2-hour class designed to assist caregivers better understand how dementia affects the brain and daily life. Participants review the three zones of awareness, discuss why they matter, and build knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to better support those you care for. 

A 1-hour class where caregivers build a foundation in Positive Approach to Care skills, learning how to recognize and respond to changes in the brain, and improve interactions to reduce distress.

Those wishing to attend this class must first complete the “What is dementia Really?” class.

An evidence-based program where caregivers learn about stress and its effects, practice stress management techniques, and develop problem solving skills. The program runs for nine weeks, 1.5 hours each week.

There are two programs offered:

  • The Stress Busting Program, which is open to all family and unpaid caregivers.
  • The Stress Busting Program for Family Caregivers of Those with Dementia.
