I Didn't Know We Had fireflies in Utah!
Citizen scientists have been reporting bioluminescent fireflies in Utah (and other western U.S. states), to the Western Firefly Project, for over a decade; breaking new ground in our understanding of these charismatic beetles. Come learn how the Natural History Museum of Utah uses and shares this information and how you can participate in this and other exciting projects.
Christy Bills has been the invertebrates collections manager at the NHMU since 1998. At the museum, she has worked in exhibit design, outreach, education, volunteer management and of course, curation. Some of her favorite parts of working at the museum are the cute kids she gets to meet, as well as collaborations with scientists around the world. Some of the most intriguing parts of working with the insect collection are deep dives into the history, collector biographies and geography of a collection that spans a hundred and thirty years and six continents, but focuses right here in Utah.
She loves sharing the wonderful world of bugs with all kinds of different people - and knows that entomology is for everyone.
This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Please only reserve the number of tickets you will use.
